After all, a girl is not an object that one can treat and manipulate like a puppet, a girl is someone who needs love, kindness, and someone who understands them.
GIRLS INCORPORATED AND LANC'ME ANNOUNCE 2nd ANNUAL GIRLS INC. CORPORATE CAMP
Week-long Corporate Adventure Inspires Young Women To Build a Bright and Beautiful Future
NEW YORK, June 2004 - Girls Incorporated and Lanc'me kick off the second-annual Girls Inc. Corporate Camp on July 10th through July 15, 2004 in New York City. Dubbed "She's Strong, She's Smart, She's Bold, She Shines!" the program awards fifteen girls (ages 14-18) from across the nation a week-long mix of corporate experiences including unprecedented access to the inner workings of the cosmetic industry and top retail and media organizations such as Teen Vogue and Bloomingdale's.
Girls Incorporated, a national non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and boldSM, partnered with Lanc'me, one of the world's leading beauty companies, to develop the program in order to connect girls - many of whom will be the first in their families to attend college - with accomplished female professionals to inspire these young women and give them the tools they need on the path to becoming tomorrow's leaders.
This new model of mentoring is a customized, highly interactive program that includes insight into the Lanc'me product development process, access to research facilities, brand strategy meetings, and more.
Selection is based on a nationwide competition in which girls at all Girls Incorporated affiliates and affiliate offices across the country are asked to develop a new product to be marketed to women. Some of the winning entries included:
Switch Flips: flip flops with interchangeable multi-colored soles and thongs.
Cell Phone/Makeup: a combination cell phone and makeup compact.
E-books: Digital textbooks to lighten the load of a heavy school backpack.
As a requirement for attending the program the girls will be expected to report on their experiences via their local chapters and through other community-based activities. The opportunity to experience different career paths within the business world resonated with 2003 Camp attendees. "My experience at Corporate Camp really opened my eyes to so many career opportunities I didn't know existed," states Margaret Menefee, age 18 from Houston, Texas. "I had my life all planned out before this, but now I know about all of the different options I can pursue."
"We developed the program to inspire young women," said Dalia Chammas, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Lanc'me. "After last year's experience, we realized that the inspiration went both ways. This is a true give and take opportunity."
"We are very excited to again join with our partner, Lanc'me, to provide the second annual Girls Inc. Corporate CampSM , said Joyce Roch', President of Girls Incorporated. "We believe in introducing girls to interesting work and preparing them for economic independence. This opportunity gives girls access to a variety of disciplines within the business world and it provides them with valuable skills and knowledge to be successful in any career path."
